About Earthtopomaps New layers set in Google Earth Pro !
Hi everyone,
Today we’ve started to roll out updated map layers in Google Earth Pro on desktop. With this change we are removing some outdated data in Earth Pro, as well as making improvements to keep maps layer data more consistent with other Google products like Maps and Earth web and mobile. This includes rapidly propagating user-suggested changes in Google Maps into Earth.
What’s getting updated?
We will be replacing the following layers with new layers
The older layers will be phased out over the next few months and will be labeled as “outdated” during the interim until they are permanently removed.
User experience changes
Offline use: The new map layers are not cached persistently and therefore will not work offline. As a work around, users can use alternative sources for these data layers that they can save to their hard drive and open in Google Earth Pro for offline visualization.

Video export
For efficiency these layers have been optimized to only show the level of detail and geographic coverage needed for the current viewport. This might result in temporary gaps in coverage when rapidly panning the map or zooming in and out, but overall results in faster map load times. Certain video export use cases may be impacted. We encourage users to evaluate Google Earth Studio or do screen recordings using the web version of Google Earth.

Prerequisites
- Absolutely no programming skills needed!
- In April 2017, Google Earth on Web was released, which puts Earth on the browser. However, for this tutorial, you will need Earth for Desktop installed on your computer. Download the latest version Google Earth.
